The Chicago Bears have made a drastic decision on the future of Matt Eberflus.

The head coach has been under fire since failing to take a timeout near the end of Thursday’s loss to the Detroit Lions. But he will not have an opportunity to fix things as the team has opted to part ways with him.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has just reported that the Bears are firing Eberflus, making it the first time they’ve ever gotten rid of a head coach in the middle of the season.

“Black Friday: For the first time in the 100-plus year history of the franchise, the Chicago Bears have made an in-season head-coaching change, firing Matt Eberflus,” Schefter tweeted on Friday afternoon.

Eberflus was allowed to hold a press conference on Friday, discussing the state of the team shortly before the Bears let him go.

According to Schefter, offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over as interim head coach.

With yesterday’s loss, the Bears dropped to 4-8 and are likely headed toward another losing season despite drafting Caleb Williams.

The Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams suffered their worst season loss on Thursday against the Detroit Lions, scoring 20-23.

At the end of the game, there was much controversy, as head coach Matt Eberflus refused to call a timeout to give the Bears a better chance of gaining just four more yards and making it into field goal range.

After the game, Williams was asked about the questionable clock management and gave the best response.

“In that situation, I’m living with the call and letting coaches make that decision. … Maybe in the later years of my career [he may call a timeout himself], right now I get the call and I’m trying to lead my team to a win,” Williams said, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

His ability to own up and not throw his coach under the bus impressed many social media users.

“This dude continues to take all bullets for his team,” said one comment.

“The kid has real leadership qualities,” said another.

“The kid has real leadership qualities,” another continued.

“Caleb is going to be absolute monster in this league. 🥷 battled and still taking blame,” a fourth added.

Caleb Williams Played Great Against The Lions

In no world should WIlliams be taking the blame for this loss.

He finished the game by completing 20 passes for 256 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It was a very impressive day for the rookie.
