A duct-taped banana has somehow sold for a whopping $6.2 million, and the banana wasn’t actually included.

The conceptual art, nothing but a banana duct-taped to a wall, was auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York on Wednesday, with crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun winning it with a bid of the aforementioned amount.

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan debuted the piece called “Comedian” at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019. It attracted so much attention that it had to be taken down as folks tried to figure out whether there was some catch.

Three versions sold between $120,000 and $150,000.

Fast forward to 2024, and Sun, the founder of crypto platform TRON, has parted ways with $6.2 million, per NPR.

The sum was only good for a certificate of authenticity that gives him the authority to duct-tape a banana to a wall and call it “Comedian.”

Social Media Was In Disbelief After Finding Out Someone Paid That Much For A Duct-Taped Banana

As you may have imagined, the reactions to this were wild.

“This is peak art market madness! People paying millions for something so trivial screams a bubble. That’s a hefty tag for a banana! Not surprised, though. Art is often more about the story than the piece itself,” someone wrote.

“At this point he’s just craving attention,” said another.

“JUST IN: JUSTIN SUN ENGAGING IN BLATANT MONEY LAUNDERING,” a third claimed.

“Not sure who the real comedian is here — the banana, or Cattelan himself. Anyway one thing’s pretty certain: Sotheby’s and Maurizio Cattelan are laughing all the way to the bank,” said another. “Let’s hope the banana doesn’t get stuck in Mr Sun’s throat.”

Sun actually won the auction for $5.2 but has to pay an additional $1 million in auction house fees.

He says the duct-taped banana “represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community,” though he plans to eat it.

“Additionally, in the coming days, I will personally eat the banana as part of this unique artistic experience, honoring its place in both art history and popular culture,” he added.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, October 6, Kelly shared a snap of her character Sam McCall’s final scene, noting how it was her “final scene with the Davis girls.”

In the snap, Kelly could be seen with co-stars Kate Mansi, Nancy Lee Grahn, and Kristen Vaganos.

“Still doesn’t make any sense to me,” she added, touching on her firing from the beloved daytime program.

Co-star Nancy Lee commented on the post, writing, “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.’ — Albert Einstein.

“I love you. All will be well. There are some things a TV mother just knows.”

At the end of August, it was revealed that Kelly would be exiting the soap as the beloved Sam McCall, with her exit scenes still yet to air.

After more than two decades on the ABC soap opera, reports emerged in August that Kelly’s character would be killed off.

When the news came out, it was also claimed that “it wasn’t Kelly’s decision to leave” the soap opera, and she was “blindsided” by the news, as per Soap Opera Network.

After filming more than 2,000 episodes for the soap, fans were devastated.

Kelly joined the show in 2003 after working on the spinoff series Port Charles, where she portrayed Livvie Locke from 2000 to 2003.

The Episcopal priest from Falls Church, Virginia went into today’s game already a two-day champ with earnings of $39,400.

He went up against Julia Schan, a stay-at-home mom from Pleasanton, California and Drew Wheeler, a high school social studies teacher from Athens, Georgia.

Drew was off to an impressive start an garnered an early lead which only increased when he found, and correctly guessed, the first Daily Double.

Heading into the first break, Drew had the lead with $2,900 while Kevin and Julia were far behind with $600 and $200, respectively.

However, Kevin was able to make up a lot of ground by the Double Jeopardy! round.

The returning champ was in second with $3,400, just $100 behind Drew while Julia upped her score to $1,600.

Kevin was next to find the second Daily Double in the $1,600 clue under “E BOOKS” and nearly lost everything in a shocking wager.

Julia found the third Daily Double but like her opponent, she also missed it – costing her just $1,000.

After her opponents ended up making several bold wagers that they lost, Julia moved her way to the top to gain the lead heading into Final Jeopardy!

As host Ken, 50, revealed the last category as “State Songs”, the players placed their wagers.

Jeopardy! Contestant Rules

Passing Jeopardy!’s online Anytime Test is hard enough, but there are also many rules players must follow once they make it to the stage:

The returning champion is always at the leftmost podium and keeps playing until they lose.
Contestants don’t have to say “who is” or “what is” in the first round but must do so in Double Jeopardy! and Final Jeopardy.
Contestants can change their responses as long as Ken Jennings or the judges haven’t made a ruling.
The minimum wager for a Daily Double is $5. The minimum wager for Final Jeopardy! is $0.
Written responses in Final Jeopardy! do not have to be spelled correctly, but they must be phonetically correct (the judges decide this).
If there’s a tie after Final Jeopardy, the tied players enter a bonus clue shootout, and whoever buzzes in first correctly wins.
If all three contestants wager everything in Final Jeopardy! and are incorrect, leaving them with $0, there will be no returning champion (it’s happened before—six times).

Typically, Jeopardy! players need to win five consecutive games in order to score a Tournament of Champions invite – the spinoff special that brings back past winners to score an even bigger prize.

However, due to so few people being able to achieve that, contestants who win just three games this season will be able to go to the prestigious tournament.

Trailing behind Eminem on the Billboard 200 is K-pop sensation ENHYPEN with their Romance: Untold album making its debut at No. 2, followed by country star Zach Bryan’s The Great American Bar Scene at No. 3.

Suge Knight’s son Jake has once again hit out at musical enemy Eminem, claiming he has recorded a diss track about the Slim Shady rapper. Oh, good, this again.

 

 

 

But rather than releasing the mean-spirited ditty, Jake says he has done too good a job on it, claiming it’s so hurtful that it would be cruel just to let people hear it.

Taking to Instagram, Jake shared a photo, which read: “I have this diss track but it’s so disrespectful that I’m not going to put it out.”

It was posted along with the caption: “I know the fans want it but sometimes us celebrities have to stay in control of the situation. It was fun tho.”

But he wasn’t done there. The next day, he further goaded Eminem’s fans who he said were begging him to release it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He added: “If you know! Then you know you don’t have to prove s***. Eminem’s sans are so thirsty for my diss track. It’s tempting to drop but the clout lord don’t need it. 20/20 we coming.”

The 28-year-old then nonchalantly responded, “Idk why you guys care so much about leaks.” She had a few back and forths with fans about why she doesn’t care that some of her new songs arrived online before her full project dropped — until one fan asked her, “which one did you whack Cardi B on?”

Doja denied doing anything of the sort, frustratedly responding:

“none of them get a f**kin life”

The confusion was over a track titled Acknowledge Me. In it, she ultimately clarified it’s Carly Rae Jepsen who she named, and not Cardi B. But the way she raps it, we guess it can kinda sound like either! Man, that could have been the beginning of a whole new rap war!! About the leaks, Doja did eventually reveal her true feelings. She posted:

“No its definitely messed up cuz i wanted to put it out myself but theres nothing i can do about it!! thats just how its gonna be but at least i can just keep being creative and look forward to the awesome things i have coming up!!”
