During the first game on Thanksgiving day, the Detroit Lions won a nail-biter against the Chicago Bears 23-20. The game would end in heartbreak for Chicago, and much of the blame has fallen on head coach Matt Eberflus.

With seven seconds left, the Bears ran a play from the 41yard line with a deep shot and just four yards away from field goal range. It would fall incomplete, the clock hit triple zeros, and the game ended.

However, the Bears still had one timeout left, so many wondered why Eberflus called for a deep shot instead of just trying to get a few yards, then calling a timeout and going for the tie.

After the game, he was asked about the situation and completely tip-toed around the situation.

“Like I said, disappointing for the players. They put a lot of work in that short week. Put themselves in a position to win that game,” he said as the main message in his response.

This was just the latest in heartbreaking losses for the Bears, which might signal the end of Eberflus’s time in Chicago.

NFL CBS analyst and former quarterback Matt Ryan destroyed Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus over his inexcusable botch that cost his team the game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

Chicago was trailing 23-20 with less than a minute to go, needing just a field goal to force overtime. Caleb Williams took a sack at the Detroit 41 with just 32 seconds remaining, but Matt Eberflus had one timeout in his back pocket.

For some reason, Eberflus decided not to use his final timeout. Williams and the Bears offense failed to get set and bled valuable time off the clock, forcing Williams to attempt a last-second Hail Mary that fell incomplete.

After the game, Ryan destroyed Matt Eberflus for his coaching malpractice that dropped Chicago to 4-8 on the season:

“This is unacceptable from the head coach position. Your responsibility is to not panic in critical situations. To put your team in the best opportunity to win games. That’s a massive, massive fail by Matt Eberflus.”

 

No matter how Eberflus tries to justify it, there’s no excuse for this. If your offense is clearly disorganized and confused, you call the timeout and give them a chance to win.

It’s not a matter of “if” the Bears will fire Matt Eberflus, but when they’ll announce it. If it’s not after this week, it’s gotta be in the next couple of weeks.

He’s had three years at the helm, and the Bears haven’t shown any signs of progress under his belt despite a stellar rookie year from Williams. Today’s loss, coupled with that Hail Mary defeat in Washington a few weeks back, are clear-as-day evidence that he’s not qualified to be a head coach.

The Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins are facing off on Thursday to wrap up the three-game Thanksgiving slate. The game is on NBC and Peacock, and the Sunday Night Football crew will handle broadcasting duties. However, Mike Tirico did not have Cris Collinsworth by his side for this contest.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has apologized for some of the controversial comments he made on First Take this Thursday.

The outspoken analyst had quite a bit to say about the head injury sustained by Anthony Davis while he was playing against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. AD was not able to finish the game after getting inadvertently hit in the face by Kevon Looney’s elbow and was reportedly taken to the locker room in a wheelchair.

It’s believed Davis could have suffered a concussion but members of the media, including Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, downplayed its severity. Smith was among such a group on Thursday and, speaking to Jay Williams on the aforementioned show, questioned the seriousness of Davis’ injury.

“I ain’t seen nothing yesterday that made me say, ‘concussion, concussion,’” he said. “Now I don’t know if it’s true or not. Did a wheelchair get him to the locker room? I’m not sure. Really? A wheelchair? That’s where we are.”

Smith has since faced some backlash that has prompted him to take to Twitter with an apology.

Kelsey Plum was at the Final Four matchup between the Iowa Hawkeyes and UConn Huskies when cameras found her seated in the crowd.

UConn cut Iowa’s lead to one with 39 seconds remaining in regulation and had an opportunity to win it with 9.3 seconds after forcing a turnover. However, the Huskies were called for an offensive foul and the Hawkeyes secured the victory. It was a terrible way to end such a good game.

There’s a conspiracy theory for just about everything, including bizarre ones relating to the highly publicized relationship between Grammy Award-winning singer Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The three-time Super Bowl champion has been in a relationship with Taylor Swift for over a year. Their rumored romance was confirmed when Swift attended the Chiefs’ Week 3, 2023 home game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kelce’s romance with Swfit has been a giant win for the Chiefs and the NFL, too. She has brought plenty more attention to the NFL and contributed to the Chiefs’ skyrocketing popularity worldwide.

Naturally, conspiracy theorists believe the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift romance is simply a marketing ploy to help the Chiefs and the league. But Chiefs president Mark Donovan finally addressed the ridiculous rumor during an appearance on NBC’s “Squawk Box” program:

“I’d love to say that it was a marketing strategy, but it is an authentic relationship. And we’re happy to have it, and it’s been nothing but good for us.

I think the best thing I can say about the whole relationship and the impact it’s had on us is, Taylor Swift is an authentic member of the Kansas City Chiefs kingdom. She’s an authentic fan and that matters to our fans and our fan base and to matters to us and we try to respect that.”

Caitlin Clark may not be fully focused on basketball in her first offseason as a professional, but she playfully encouraged her former Iowa teammate, forward Jada Gyamfi, to prioritize basketball after Gyamfi shared photos from her trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico, on Instagram.

Gyamfi made two separate posts showing off her vacation. In the first one, Clark and another former Iowa teammate, Kate Martin, left lighthearted comments.

“Work it jades,” Clark wrote.

“Slay!” Martin said.

However, when Gyamfi posted more photos a few hours later, Clark humorously responded, urging her to stop spending time on Instagram and get back to focusing on basketball.

“Less grams. More basketball thanks. Love ya,” Clark said.

Connor McCaffery, Clark’s boyfriend and fellow Iowa alum, also joined in on the joke, saying:

“Love the double post you are killing it.”

Martin still supportive, commented:

“Jawline snatched.”

Gyamfi, now in her third year at Iowa, is averaging 2.5 points in 5.3 minutes per game.

In the post-Caitlin Clark era, Iowa has started strong, with a perfect 6-0 record in the Big Ten.

Caitlin Clark receives rings in Iowa homecoming

Clark returned to her alma mater, the University of Iowa, for the school’s homecoming celebrations last month. The WNBA Rookie of the Year marked the occasion with former teammates Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin.

A highlight of the weekend was a ring ceremony honoring the Iowa women’s basketball team’s accomplishments over the past two seasons.

Clark and her teammates were presented with championship rings for their Big Ten title and their incredible Final Four run.

The Iowa Women’s Basketball team shared the joyful moment on social media, posting a picture of Clark and Martin displaying their rings.

Caitlin Clark talks about inspiring young athletes

Clark has played a pivotal role in increasing the visibility of the WNBA and women’s basketball. In her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, she set multiple scoring and shooting records and was named Rookie of the Year.

In her first offseason as a professional, Clark has primarily concentrated on golf and other activities, like speaking at leadership events. At the LPGA Women’s Leadership Summit, Clark shared how her platform has influenced young athletes.

“I would say, the young girls that are at our games screaming and having the time of their lives, and you go up to them and they start crying. It’s cute, but also I was just in their shoes,” she said.

“You know, however many years ago, I was begging my dad or my mom to take me to whatever sporting event it was. And I was screaming that I wanted to meet the players… because it was so impactful. I wanted to be who they were.”

Clark has not yet participated in any basketball-related activities during her first offseason, recently turning down the Unrivaled league.

Lexie Hull and Caitlin Clark have developed exciting chemistry in basketball for the Indiana Fever. The closeness between the sharpshooter and the generational talent from Iowa blossomed out of the court and they often spend time together, calling themselves the best of friends.

On Tuesday, Hull appeared on the “She’s4Sports” podcast to open up about her career in the WNBA. Naturally, the conversation steered towards her friendship with Clark. When asked about sharing the court with a teammate whom she has become close with, Hull responded:

“It’s really awesome to get to know her as well, because, you know, she’s a great person, but you all have these expectations put on her and our team has put on her and fans have put on her. So to see her kind of be so mature in that transition, it’s been really awesome.” (2:36 mark)

Hull explained that getting to know her as a person outside of the basketball superstar was crucial in their friendship. Once they became more comfortable with each other, they’ve seen great results in their partnership.

Lexie Hull mainly came off the bench for the Indiana Fever. When she became more valuable and her chemistry with Caitlin Clark became more evident, Hull became a fixture in the starting lineup. The two close friends, together with Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith, carried the team to a strong finishing kick in the 2024 season.

From an 11-15 record before the Olympic games started, the Fever finished with a 9-5 mark to close the regular season with a 20-20 record. The sprint to the finish line allowed them to grab the No. 6 spot in the playoffs, Indiana’s first postseason appearance since 2016.

While Caitlin Clark has been working on her golf game, Lexie Hull has started her preparation for the Unrivaled basketball league. Hull was named to the inaugural tournament that will open in January. The Indiana Fever announced on Instagram that the former Stanford star is “back in the lab.”
